The primary responsibility of the Car Washer/Detailer is to wash, clean, and otherwise make vehicles ready for sale and delivery. They may also do more advanced detailing work under the supervision of qualified reconditioning personnel. In some cases, they may serve as porters (moving vehicles as required), shuttle drivers, and helpers in the department wherever their help is required.

Primary Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

(other duties may be assigned)

  • Uses brushes and power washing equipment to clean the exterior of vehicles.
  • Washes cars; removes tar and other material from vehicle surfaces.
  • Dry and wax the exterior of vehicles after cleaning.
  • Assists with snow removal and other outside maintenance as necessary/requested.
  • Vacuums and cleans floor mats, dashboard, interior door panels, carpets, and other interior surfaces.
  • Cleans windshields and windows.
  • Moves vehicles as requested; deliver vehicles to other dealerships as requested.
  • Keeps the shop area neat, clean, and organized.
  • Works with obvious urgency to move vehicles through the reconditioning process.
  • May assist other reconditioning personnel and technicians as requested.
  • Stores tools and supplies in their proper places.

 

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (if under 18 years of age, work permit required)
  • Physical stamina (bending, lifting)
  • Attention to Detail
  • Comfortable working outdoors when necessary

PURPOSE:

The Service Advisor is responsible for scheduling service work in the service department; for managing the service work performed; for communicating with all concerned during the service work; and for selling additional needed service to customers.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Greet customers in a timely, friendly manner; let customers who are waiting know that they will be helped soon.
  • Schedule appointments using dealership-approved forms.
  • Communicate with service customers to determine the nature of the mechanical problem.
  • Obtain customer & vehicle data.
  • Test-drive the vehicle with the customer if there is any question as to the nature of the problem.
  • Advise customers on the care of their cars and the value of maintaining their vehicles in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications, using maintenance menus.
  • Ensure that all repair orders are accounted for.
  • If additional work is needed, explain the details to the customer, including the additional cost and time consideration.
  • Indicate on repair order the exact repair instructions, making a special note of the main reason the customer brought the vehicle in. Repair Orders must be legible.
  • Provide estimates of labor & parts. If cost cannot be determined, leave open and contact customer later for approval.
  • Establish time promised.
  • Obtain customer’s signature on repair order.
  • Follow up progress of each repair order during the day. Contact customer by telephone regarding changes in the estimate or time promised. Record changes on repair order in approved fashion.
  • Handle telephone inquiries regarding work in process & appointments and return phone messages promptly.
  • Deliver vehicle to customers & answer any questions.
  • Keep Quick Pricing Guide, Signals Checklist, Maintenance Menus, and other service dept. forms up to date.
  • Be responsible for quality control to ensure that work is completed as requested and to reduce come- backs.
  • Interpret warranty information & policies to customers.
  • Identify ROs that require special handling such as rush, customer waiting, special problem, comeback.
  • Keep Service Manager informed of all problems & potential problems involving repairs, customers & equipment.
  • Be up-to-date on technical & performance information on all vehicles serviced by dealership.
  • Refer leads & prospects for vehicle sales to the NEW & USED car dept.
  • On completion of work, repair orders must be closed in a TIMELY & EFFICIENT manner.

 

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Participate in any dealer promotion or program as requested.
  • Attend any and all schooling requested by management.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • H.S. diploma or the equivalent.
  • Ability to read & comprehend instructions & information.
  • Two years of experience in a dealership position.
  • General knowledge of mechanical operations.
  • Sales experience preferred.
  • Professional personal appearance.
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills.
